So today was the first official meeting of the University based SnB group! It was wonderful! We all met up at the Roxy Cafe and had some delicious noms (homemade crisps, veggie wraps, Caesar salads, and homemade chips and sodas) and started in on some initial projects. Two of our girls are new and learning some handicraft and the others had some UFOs on hand to work on. All in all it was a good first meet. I'm really looking forward to next week's meeting.

Also took my crochet student to the yarn stores to get her some yarn and hooks. I think she's well on her way to being obsessed... I told her she really just needed some yarn and one hook to start her off with and what'd she come away with? Well, dear Sarah now has 8 balls of various cottons and 2 lovely bamboo hooks to work with.

Laura had the knitting in hand with Jessy trying to follow along. Jessy's a 'hooker' by nature and showed us a LOVELY blanket she's working on -- I was a bit involved with my crisps and didn't manage to get a photo.

And last but not least, my 2 new skeins of Cotton Fleece came in at The Lounge so I bustled myself down there today and even bought another skein of Lamb's Pride purple... I've so little left and still have a bag to finish.

Hopefully we'll all have a fair amount of things for the crafts alley next First Friday.

Twas a good day all around!

Antiques on a gloomy day

The weather has reflected my mood this last seven day. Muggy, hot and nearly unbearable. Grumpy weather.

Today however, after weeks of heat and forecasts of rain, we finally got it. Woke to a dreary morning, taking all the natural light from the house in its gloom as darker clouds burbled promisingly on the horizon. What do you do on such a day? Thrift and antique shopping of course!

Today's take: 2 new Trivia board games, 2 Disney VHS tapes, 1 cutely squat Ball jar, and 6 balls of cotton yarn! The best part: I spent less than 12 dollars all included!

Unfortunately the camera is still missing. I'm not sure if it just got lost in the move or disappeared in the break in. But it is absent...

The bag, however, is finished! And pending good light there will be pictures... Perhaps I will take the chance to usurp my good friend's Blackberry Storm and snap some lovely shots of my big big bag!

And better news still, I am once more gainfully employed! No more horrible panic and ulcer inducing terror. Silver lining.

For me, I am off. Kittens are calling me and I have crochet to work on and jewelry to plot out.

It's been a whirlwind. Especially the last 7-day. Up and down and up and down like a crazy roller-coaster. And I've more UFOs than I have finished pieces right now...

So here's a new UFO...

Yet another bag. I'm thinking it might be a pull-string bag once I'm done. I'll see.

The camera is still missing... Oh well.

I seem to have misplaced my camera in the move. However, I still have my mobile and despite the somewhat crappy camera and near terrible lighting, pictures do come out okay... So for the time being.

Being as this is the first post, I should probably get the introduction out of the way. I am a crafter finally finishing my degree this coming spring. In school I focused on metal working and jewelry making, though I've had a long love for fabric and recently discovered the joys of yarn. Despite spending as long as I have in working toward a degree, nothing would make me happier than to be a housewife and cook, clean, sew, and crochet/knit all day long. But for the time being I work in retail and craft when I can.

Confession: I taught myself to crochet less than 2 weeks ago. But I think it's coming along well. I've finished 1 scarf, have 2 in progress, and last night I started the bag in the above photo (so it's not a bag yet, but rather a circle -- the quilt was handmade by my grandmother many many years ago)...

We're getting there.
